Edward Parent
Ed
Parent was born in 1929 and brought up in Brookline and Newtonville, Mass.
He graduated in 1952 from Tufts University with a BS in Chemical
Engineering. He enlisted in the Navy, attended OCS and then served from 1952
to 1956 as a commissioned officer. His naval assignments were battleship USS
New Jersey during the final phase of the Korean War followed by the carrier
USS Intrepid on Mediterranean duty.
Ed
is married to Sally and they have five children and nine grandchildren
Prior to his retirement in 1994 he was an advanced development engineer for
Osram Sylvania.
Ed
has a lifelong interest in ship model building and marine history,
especially Civil War vessels. He is a 1997 Bronze medal winner for his model
of the USS New Ironsides in a contest entitled "Old Ironsides and the U.S.
Navy: 200 years in Scale Models" He has authored three articles for Model
Shipbuilder magazine and is an ongoing contributor of articles to Ships in
Scale magazine.
Presently Ed is a member of the Cape Ann Ship Modeler's Guild, the Nautical
Research Guild and the USS Constitution Modeler Shipwrights Guild. Ed's
other interests are bicycling and piano.
