George C. Bottger
George Bottger is building a collection of “stylized”, ¼- size (3” – 1’) vessels based upon lines, offsets and whatever details, if any, may be available in plans obtained from the Smithsonian and originally published in Howard I. Chapelle’s American Small Sailing Craft. His intent is to demonstrate the simplicity, utility and beauty of traditional working craft designed and built on the Eastern Seaboard, from Maine to New Jersey, during the nineteenth century. George has completed three vessels since starting his hobby in the year 2000, and is currently lofting the lines for the fourth, a New York Bay Sloop. He is hoping to increase his rate of production after retirement.
